The qualifiers for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2024, have officially begun.

Ghana were the big winners on the first day of the qualifiers journey to Morocco, while Burkina Faso and Algeria also won away.

Egypt became the only side to get a result at home with a clinical display against South Sudan.

Rwanda 0-7 Ghana

Goals: D. Boaduwaa 2nd, E. Badu 9th, 65th, P. Adubea 28th, A. Kusi 53rd, A. Achiaa 76th, 86th.

It was a clinical display by the Black Queens. Nora Häuptle’s were ruthless in front of goal out in Kigali, Rwanda as they cruised to a comfortable win away from home.

Evelyn Badu proved once again why she was voted young player of the year at the last CAF Awards. The midfielder who is on the books of Norweigian club, Avaldsnes Idrettslag scored twice, as did her teammate Anesthesia Achiaa in spearheading a 7-0 drubbing of Rwanda.

Eswatini 2-3 Burkina Faso

Goals: S. Simelane 47th, T. Ngcamphalala 88th / B. Sawadogo 17th, R. Sawadogo, 19th M.Compaoré 33rd

One of the sensations of the last TotalEnergies WAFCON, Burkina Faso were almost edged by Eswatini.

Coach Pascal Sawadogo’s were clinical in the opening half, getting three goals to put them ahead but lapses in concentration in the second half saw Samkelisiwe Simelane and Tenanile Ngcamphalala getting two crucial goals which will be key in the return leg on Tuesday, 26 September.

Uganda 1-2 Algeria

Goals: F. Najjemba 87th / I. Chebel 47th H. Karchouni 51st

Algeria, who missed out on the last edition of the TotalEnergies WAFCON got their campaign off to a winning start with a slender 2-1 victory over Uganda.

Second half strikes by Imane Chebel and Habiba Karchouni livened things up in what was a very tactical encounter by the two-sides.

With just minutes before the final whistle, Fauzia Najjemba pulled a goal back for the Ugandans to give them much needed hope ahead of the return leg of the qualifiers.

Egypt 4-0 South Sudan

The only team to win on home soil on the day, Egypt have taken a major step towards the second round of qualifying for next year’s continental showpiece.

An impressive 4-0 victory over Sudan sets the Egyptians on course for a comfortable away trip in the second leg, following a clinical display at home against a hapless South Sudan.
