Newcastle have identified Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo as their ‘dream target’ for the January transfer window, according to reports.
Mark Douglas at the i has stated that the right-wing position is the club’s biggest priority going into the market. After a disappointing start to the season, the Magpies are shifting their focus from defensive reinforcements to strengthening their attack.
Mbeumo has had a stellar season for Brentford and once again emerged as a candidate to solve Newcastle’s attacking woes. The 24-year-old has been in superb form, netting six goals in eight Premier League appearances while also creating five big chances for his teammates.
Paul Mitchell and manager Eddie Howe have appeared to have draw a line in the sand head of Newcastle’s January window, which will be critical. The club aims to address shortcomings from the summer transfer window, especially given their mixed season so far.
Occupying the right wing already is Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy, but both have yet to score this season, and there is growing concern about the lack of firepower there. Injuries and inconsistent form have plagued the squad
Mbeumo’s versatility must be of interest to Howe – he can play as a right winger, but he has also thrived in a central striker role, scoring 11 goals across 30 appearances when playing up front.
This flexibility would provide Eddie Howe with additional options, easing the burden on Isak and offering a potential long-term replacement for Callum Wilson.
Newcastle were linked to the Frenchman in the summer but the club appeared to turn their attentions to centre-back Marc Guehi instead.
