Santa Rosa may not be the kindest city in America, but it’s far from the cruelest, according to a report out by LuvLink.

Sonoma County’s largest city ranked No. 88 on the website’s Oct. 7 report of “Top 150 Kindest Places in America of 2024,” coming in between Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky, and Yonkers, New York.

Even at No. 88, Santa Rosa was the highest ranking Northern California city on the list.

LuvLink, which sells a range of products — such as the Friendship Lamp — meant to help customers stay in touch with loved ones, said it conducted an online survey of 3,000 travelers asking where in the United States they encountered “the most warmhearted and welcoming locals.”

According to the website, top spots on the list were cities where travelers said they received assistance or guidance, were invited to local events or gatherings and were embraced by the local culture. It did not say how the rankings were determined.

The kindest city in the U.S., LuvLink said, was Savannah, Georgia, where “Southern charm is deeply ingrained in the city’s rich history and tight-knit community.”

Jackson, Mississippi; Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Port St. Lucie, Florida; and Richmond, Virginia, rounded out the top five kindest cities in the country.

Huntington Beach (No. 33) was the highest ranking city from the Golden State.

Other California cities deemed kinder than Santa Rosa included Irvine (No. 38), Oceanside (No. 39), Anaheim (No. 46), Simi Valley (No. 53), Fullerton (No. 58), Corona (No. 63), Santa Clarita (No. 70), Orange (No. 76), and Thousand Oaks (No. 77).

California cities that ranked lower on the survey than Santa Rosa included Ontario (No. 95), Torrance (No. 97), Garden Grove (No. 105), Vallejo (No. 111), Rancho Cucamonga (No. 122), Riverside (No. 1123), and Modesto (No. 132).
