Drilling in the US fell this week, offsetting a gain in Canada, according to Baker Hughes data. There were 784 rigs working in North America to end the week.

Drilling in the US fell during the week ended Nov. 22, down 1 rig to 583 rotary rigs still working. The drop offset the 1-rig gain in Canada that brought the country to a total of 201 rigs running for the week.

The US count is down 39 from the same time last year, while Canada’s year-over-year count is up 4 from the year prior.

In the US, land operations were unchanged at 568. The offshore rig count decreased by 1 to 13, while inland water operations remained unchanged at 2 rigs working.

Of the rotary rigs working in the US, there were 479 drilling for oil this week, down 21 from the previous week. Those drilling for natural gas were down by 2 units to 99, down 18 from this time last year. There were 5 rigs unclassified, unchanged from last week.

Among the major producing states, Louisiana saw the largest decrease in rigs. With 30 rigs working, the count is down 3 from last week. Colorado and California each dropped a single unit to end the week with respective counts of 10 and 5.

Texas added 2 rigs this week for a total of 281 units working. Oklahoma and Wyoming each added a single unit to end the week with 44 and 19 rigs working, respectively.
