A series of events spanning four days kicked off to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, featuring a military parade through the heart of London, attended by large crowds, proud veterans, and royals from three generations.
The procession showcased Regiments from the Household Division and the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, making its way along the Mall from Parliament Square to Buckingham Palace.
As the procession reached the Palace, King Charles rendered a salute, having watched the troops traverse the Union Jack-lined Mall.
He was accompanied by other members of the royal family as well as veterans, political leaders, and members of the public, who came together to greet the military units as they approached the Palace.
In attendance were three generations of royals, notably the King, the Queen, and the Prince and Princess of Wales along with their children.
Prominent political figures included London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and his wife, Lady Victoria.
The parade commenced outside Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, as the iconic bells chimed in celebration.
During the festivities, actor Timothy Spall stood before the statue of Winston Churchill in Parliament Square, reciting a portion of the former prime minister’s original VE Day message.
As he spoke, the procession navigated around the corner and proceeded along the Mall.
