Former goalkeeper of Moscow’s Dynamo and the Russian national team, **Anton Shunin**, has announced the end of his professional football career. Shunin left Dynamo last summer after his contract expired.
“A year ago, I had no intention of retiring. I thought that moment was far off and that I would sign a new contract with Dynamo. When they didn’t extend my contract, I started to think about other teams – whether I wanted to play elsewhere. I considered offers both in Russia and abroad. There were several factors I took into account: whether the club was competing for titles, its location – in Moscow or another city. It’s clear that financial aspects also played a role. Moreover, the comfort of my family, who would move with me, was important as well. Out of the options I had, I didn’t choose any. At some point, I realized the most important thing – I didn’t have the desire to play for any other club except Dynamo. That became a key factor in my story. However, I decided to postpone the farewell moment – to see what would happen next. Would I feel good about it or not? If not, I could have continued my career in winter. But exactly a year later, at the end of this season, I am announcing my retirement. When you completely change your life, you wonder what it will be like to live differently?
