Six-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1, German tennis player **Boris Becker**, reflected on his retirement from the sport.
“I ended my career at the age of 32, but in the last years I found no joy in tennis. After I retired, I didn’t want to hear anything about the sport for a couple of years and kept my distance. I needed to completely distance myself for a while. Then, around 35 or 36, I discovered tennis from a television perspective, which was much more relaxing, and I gradually made peace with it. Now, I love it again.
I come from a family with academic traditions, and my parents were not keen on me becoming an athlete. They would have preferred for me to pursue a career as a lawyer, doctor, or architect, like my father. However, sometimes life has its own plans. I played tennis exceptionally well from a young age — that’s the real reason I dedicated myself to it. It wasn’t out of desire or ambition; it was my talent that led me there, and I simply followed that path,” Becker said, as reported by El Mundo.
