Russia Proposes Peace Talks with Ukraine and Offers Memorandum in Istanbul on June 2

Russia has suggested that the next round of peace discussions with Ukraine take place on June 2 in Istanbul, as stated by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday.

“The Russian delegation has promptly drafted a relevant memorandum, as per our agreement, outlining our stance on all aspects necessary to effectively address the underlying issues of the crisis,” he remarked.

Lavrov noted that the Russian team, led by Vladimir Medinskiy, is prepared to present the memorandum to Ukrainian representatives and offer any needed clarifications during the second round of resumed direct discussions in Istanbul next Monday.

In a message on Telegram, Medinskiy mentioned that he had contacted Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov on Wednesday to propose the date and location for the upcoming meeting.

“I’d like to stress that we are ready to initiate a vital and detailed dialogue on each point of the package deal regarding a potential ceasefire right there on-site,” he emphasized.

Medinskiy expressed his hope for a reply from Ukraine and confirmed that Russia’s delegation is prepared to meet with their Ukrainian counterparts face-to-face in the near future.

Additionally, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova mentioned that both Russia and Ukraine had agreed to prepare their perspectives on the “modalities of settlement and ceasefire,” which will be discussed and exchanged at the forthcoming round of negotiations.
