Russian authorities have charged Denis Allayarov, an editor at the pro-Kremlin news agency Ura.ru, with bribing his uncle, a former senior police official who was reportedly fired for misconduct.
As reported by Ura.ru, Allayarov faces charges of bribing a public servant following police searches conducted on Thursday at his residence and the regional office of Ura.ru in Yekaterinburg.
The regional court system has identified the alleged recipient of the bribe as Andrei Karpov, the former head of the city’s criminal investigation division.
Karpov, dismissed from the police force at an unspecified time in the past, is facing charges of accepting a bribe and abusing his authority. Following a closed hearing, he has been placed under house arrest until August 4.
The Leninsky District Court in Yekaterinburg is anticipated to make a decision later on Friday regarding Allayarov’s potential placement in pre-trial detention.
Ura.ru has refuted the allegations, claiming that Allayarov is “a target of his uncle’s slander over an alleged bribe of 20,000 rubles [$250].”
