The Metropolitan Police has published a photo of a man they wish to locate following the second act of vandalism at a Windrush exhibit in Brixton, south London.
Authorities were alerted to the defacement of a display board from the Windrush Untold Stories exhibition at Windrush Square around 11:30 AM BST on Wednesday.
The individual, estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, was recorded on CCTV entering the square at approximately 09:50 AM BST. He was seen using a walking aid or crutch and was last observed heading north along Brixton Road, past Morley’s department store.
The police do not believe this incident is connected to a previous vandalism event that took place on July 3.
This exhibition showcases 20 portraits and personal narratives of individuals who came to the UK from the Caribbean between the late 1940s and the 1970s.
Investigating officers are keeping an open mind regarding the motivations behind this latest act.
Following the vandalism on July 3, a 24-year-old man was arrested and released on bail while investigations continue, and authorities stated they do not think the attack was racially motivated.
Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who oversees policing in the area, remarked: “These incidents have understandably upset the local community.
“We are in ongoing communication with the exhibition organizers to keep them informed about our inquiries.
