LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The development trade is constructing at full pace, however falling behind in terms of staff. One nationwide homebuilder is tackling the scarcity head-on by means of an internship geared toward coaching the subsequent era.
On the job web site, it is the little issues that make a big effect. And for interns like Juan Lemus, day-after-day affords a brand new probability to construct one thing better — each on the location and for his future.
“I really like that about the job. There’s always something different, something new you can learn every day,” Lemus stated.
He’s a part of Taylor Morrison’s development internship program, which was designed to shut the rising hole in expert labor.
“[It’s designed] to kind of give them some experience in the real world,” Joey Ball, Superintendent and CSC for nationwide homebuilder and developer Taylor Morrison, stated. “It’s nothing like the school of hard knocks.”
“I hate to say it, but I’m not a young man anymore. I’m 51. Forty percent of [people my age] are going to be retired by 2031, and there’s only about maybe 3-4% of Generation Z that are interested in the trades or even what we do.”
The internship provides college students a hands-on take a look at development administration whereas giving corporations like Taylor Morrison a pipeline for future expertise.
“We offer opportunities for people to make a good living, a livable wage,” Ball defined.
