New Evidence Unveiled in Trial of Teen Stabbed Before Fatal Moped Crash

In a murder trial, it was revealed that a teenager who crashed his moped into a lamppost in north London had suffered fatal stab wounds.

Deonte Mowatt-Slater, aged 16, passed away at the site of the accident on Courtauld Road in Islington during the early hours of October 22.

Francie McCarthy, a 22-year-old from Islington, faces charges of murdering the teenager at the Old Bailey.

During the proceedings, the court was informed that the 16-year-old had sustained stab wounds to both his neck and chest. Mr. McCarthy has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.

On Monday, the jury heard from Prosecutor Edward Brown KC, who indicated that emergency services were dispatched under the assumption they were responding to a traffic incident involving a young man on a moped.

“Deonte had clearly suffered severe injuries—somehow,” Mr. Brown stated.

“He arrived in a critical state, showing very few signs of life.

“It was later revealed that he had been stabbed in the front of his neck.

“In fact, he had sustained two stab wounds, including one to his chest.”

The court heard that his condition deteriorated rapidly, and despite the diligent efforts of emergency personnel, he was declared dead at 01:16 BST.

The prosecution contends that Mr. McCarthy encountered Mr. Mowatt-Slater on Courtauld Road that night, leading to a confrontation in which Mr. Mowatt-Slater was stabbed twice before fleeing on his moped.
