In a radio interview on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his “great disappointment” regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s inability to secure a peace agreement on Ukraine following their summit in Alaska.
“When asked whether he felt let down by Putin, Trump stated, ‘I’m very disappointed in President Putin, I can say that. We had a great relationship, and I’m very disappointed,’” as reported on the Scott Jennings radio show.
Despite his discontent, Trump did not specify any potential repercussions that Russia might encounter, even though he had recently imposed a two-week deadline for a peace resolution that is nearing its end.
The U.S. President also commented on the emerging relationship between Russia and China, downplaying any concerns over their partnership despite Putin’s scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing that day, which coincided with a significant military parade.
“I’m not worried in the slightest,” Trump asserted. “We possess the strongest military in the world by a wide margin, and they would never dare to use their military against us; that would be the worst decision they could make.”
On Monday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent addressed potential sanctions on Russia during an interview with Fox News, indicating that the administration would explore various responses in the upcoming week.
