A KIER analysis workforce led by Dr. Yu-Jin Han and Dr. Sang-Hoon Park has developed a core expertise to refine industrial graphite byproducts into high-purity anode supplies for lithium-ion batteries, a breakthrough that might significantly reduce reliance on imported graphite.

Graphite, the important uncooked materials for lithium-ion battery anodes in electrical automobiles, makes up about 30% of cell weight and 10% of manufacturing price.
