A biodegradable, delicate, and conductive MXene-cellulose nanofiber paper electrode integrates Ti3C2Tx nanosheets into bamboo-derived scaffolds, with a porous Ecoflex coating that imparts waterproofing and breathability. The freestanding dry electrode permits high-fidelity EMG sensing, pressure and stress detection, and wi-fi management of a knee exoskeleton. Upon disposal, the fabric degrades oxidatively, providing a sustainable route towards scalable, eco-friendly human-machine interfaces. Credit score: Nationwide Taiwan College

Researchers at Nationwide Taiwan College have developed biodegradable MXene–bamboo paper electrodes that mix flexibility, waterproof stability, and tunable conductivity. Encapsulated in a breathable Ecoflex layer, these scalable inexperienced electrodes allow wearable sensing, electromyography, and exoskeleton management, providing a sustainable pathway for next-generation assistive applied sciences.

The biodegradable paper electrodes mix sustainability with excessive efficiency, providing an answer to the rising problem of digital waste. The research is printed in Superior Science.

These electrodes, made by embedding MXene nanosheets into bamboo-derived cellulose nanofibers, are light-weight, versatile, and cheap to provide at scale. A breathable Ecoflex coating gives waterproof safety whereas preserving sturdiness below repeated use.

The sturdy bonding between MXene and cellulose ensures structural stability and…
