Police Investigate Ribbons of Hope: Woman Questioned Over Removal of Yellow Symbols for Israeli Hostages

A woman has been interviewed by law enforcement following the circulation of a video that showed yellow ribbons, which are dedicated to Israeli hostages, being removed from a fence.

These ribbons, representing the demand for the safe return of hostages seized by Hamas on October 7, 2023, were displayed in Muswell Hill, north London, in anticipation of the upcoming two-year anniversary of the attacks that resulted in approximately 1,200 fatalities and 251 captives.

Ben Paul, who installed the ribbons, had previously expressed to BBC London that their removal was “morally repugnant.”

The Metropolitan Police announced that a 36-year-old woman voluntarily reported to a police station on Tuesday for questioning under caution. This matter is being investigated as racially aggravated criminal damage.

When confronted while removing the yellow ribbons on Fortis Green Road, the woman stated that she was not committing any offense, and in response to being called “disgusting,” she asserted, “I think condoning genocide is disgusting.”

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police mentioned on Tuesday that officers are conducting “reassurance patrols” in the Muswell Hill neighborhood.

In light of the ribbon removal, Mr. Paul remarked, “This is fundamentally about hostages and human lives. I don’t care about your political stance; this is a straightforward matter of morality.”
