Former West Ham Star Said Benrahma Fined £12,000 After XL Bullies Launch Attack

Said Benrahma, a former footballer for West Ham, has been fined £12,000 after admitting to two charges related to the ownership of dogs that were dangerously out of control.

The incidents involved his two XL bullies, which broke free from his residence in Hornchurch, east London, in July 2023. They attacked a golden retriever and injured a man, as revealed in Willesden Magistrates’ Court.

During Thursday’s court proceedings, which he attended via video link from a vehicle in Saudi Arabia—where he currently plays in the Saudi Pro League—Benrahma explained that the dogs had escaped through a side gate that had been inadvertently left open by a member of his staff.

Once outside, the court was informed that the dogs pursued and assaulted a golden retriever named Bailey, who subsequently required veterinary care.

The owner of the golden retriever, Luke Rehbin, sustained grazes on his arms and legs while trying to fend off Benrahma’s dogs, according to court testimony.

District Judge Matt Jabbitt remarked that the experience must have been “very distressing” for the owner of the golden retriever. He issued a fine of £5,000 for each of the attacks and mandated that Benrahma pay £2,500 in compensation to Mr. Rehbin, along with £495 to cover kennel expenses.
