Teen Street Musician Detained for Leading Viral Anti-Putin Sing-Along in St. Petersburg

Police in St. Petersburg have detained and charged an 18-year-old street performer for allegedly organizing an unauthorized public gathering after footage of her leading a crowd in singing an anti-Putin rock song went viral, according to local media reports on Thursday.

As reported by the Bumaga news outlet, the performer, identified as Diana Loginova, is facing a single administrative charge related to the unlawful organization of a public assembly. She has also been sentenced to 13 days of administrative detention, Bumaga stated.

Loginova, who goes by the stage name Naoko and performs with the band Stoptime, was taken into custody on Tuesday after a video surfaced showing her directing a gathering in central St. Petersburg as they sang the song “Swan Lake Cooperative” by the exiled rapper Noize MC.

The ballet “Swan Lake” has become emblematic of the Soviet Union’s collapse, having been broadcast non-stop for three days in August 1991 during a time of political upheaval. The title and lyrics of Noize MC’s song reference the infamous Ozero (‘Lake’) dacha cooperative, which was established in the mid-1990s by associates and friends of Putin.

In the viral video, a crowd in the streets of St. Petersburg can be heard singing, “I want to watch the ballet, let the swans dance. Let the old man tremble in fear for his lake.”
