A 44-year-old Spanish driver and two-time Formula 1 champion, Fernando Alonso, representing the Aston Martin team, has criticized the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for its failure to impose penalties for corner-cutting during the first turn of the Mexican Grand Prix.
“We managed to gain a few positions and were quite aggressive at the first turn, and everything seemed to be going well. However, I noticed that in the second and third turns, several cars went straight and then rejoined the race about three or four cars ahead of me. So, I would say that’s a bit unfair. This is the second race in a row where the FIA seems to overlook incidents at the first corner on the opening lap. So, lesson learned,” Alonso’s comments were reported by the Formula 1 press service.
