Two individuals in their teenage years, accused of involvement in a hacking incident targeting Transport for London’s computer systems, have both entered not guilty pleas to the charges of computer hacking at Southwark Crown Court.
Nineteen-year-old Thalha Jubair, hailing from East London, and eighteen-year-old Owen Flowers from Walsall in the West Midlands, spoke solely to confirm their identities and present their pleas during the short session.
They face charges of conspiring to engage in unauthorized activities against Transport for London (TfL) in violation of the Computer Misuse Act.
Additionally, Mr. Flowers is also charged with attempting to breach the computer networks of Sutter Health, a California-based organization, and another US entity, SSM Healthcare Corporation.
Mr. Jubair faces a further allegation of not providing passwords for his electronic devices.
TfL reported that the hacking incident resulted in £39 million worth of damages and led to a three-month disruption of its services in the autumn of 2024.
Although transport operations remained functional, various online services and information displays managed by TfL were taken offline as a result of the attack.
As a precaution, TfL had to notify thousands of customers about potential unauthorized access to sensitive personal information, including bank account numbers and sort codes.
Compromised data included names, email addresses, and residential addresses.
