On Thursday, Sergei Naryshkin, the head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, and Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova inaugurated a monument in Moscow dedicated to the creators of the legendary Soviet television series “Seventeen Moments of Spring”.
The statue features the show’s writer, Yulian Semyonov, sitting near its director, Tatiana Lioznova, and actor Vyacheslav Tikhonov, who played the lead role of Max Otto von Stirlitz, a Soviet intelligence officer.
Naryshkin remarked during the ceremony, as reported by the TASS news agency, “This series has not only become a benchmark of Russian cinema but has also woven itself into the fabric of our national identity.” He further emphasized that the series’ characters, quotes, and music are deeply entrenched in our cultural heritage.
The unveiling of the monument coincided with the 110th anniversary of the Gorky Film Studio and the 105th anniversary of the Foreign Intelligence Service. Sculptor Andrei Kovalchuk was responsible for creating the monument.
Naryshkin referred to “Seventeen Moments of Spring,” which premiered in 1973, as a “genuine, unique, and unparalleled cinematic gem,” expressing deep respect and gratitude to its creators for their outstanding achievement.
The twelve-part series chronicles the adventures of the fictional Soviet spy Stirlitz, who is embedded within the SS of Nazi Germany during the closing months of World War II.
