Russian law enforcement disrupted a punk music festival at a nightclub in Moscow on Tuesday evening, halting attendees and inspecting their phones for subscriptions to anti-war and opposition-oriented Telegram channels, according to reports from exiled media outlets.
Officers from the National Guard and OMON riot police arrived at the MO[TRI] club in northeast Moscow just before the Harvest Fest concert was set to begin, witnesses relayed to the media outlets IStories and Dozhd.
Witnesses reported that police instructed attendees to lie face down on the ground while they examined phones and identification documents.
Individuals found to be subscribed to anti-war channels on Telegram were coerced into signing contracts with the Defense Ministry, as per a source cited by IStories.
Some individuals whose phones displayed subscriptions to Ukrainian channels were reportedly assaulted, the source noted.
Batons and stun guns were allegedly used against those who resisted, a source informed Dozhd.
Authorities documented the phone numbers of attendees and took photographs of their identification, according to the reports.
It remained unclear if any attendees were arrested. A representative from the rights organization OVD-Info attempted to enter the club but was denied access, with police stating that individuals would be released after their phone inspections were completed.
The club later announced that the concert had been canceled, without providing a reason.
