Governor Alexander Khinshtein of the Kursk region announced on Thursday that he has been hospitalized following a car accident earlier in the day.
Khinshtein was en route to meet with residents in the Konyshevsky district, which is situated near the Ukrainian border, when his car slid off the road due to adverse weather conditions.
“I’m currently receiving medical care. Thankfully, I haven’t sustained any serious injuries. There were no other people harmed, and no other vehicles were involved in the incident,” the governor shared in a Telegram post.
The message did not specify the nature of his injuries. Khinshtein promised to keep the public informed regarding his recovery and advised drivers to be cautious while traveling on the roads.
At 51 years old, Khinshtein was elected as governor of the Kursk region in September 2025. He was appointed as acting governor by President Vladimir Putin a few months prior, following the resignation of his predecessor in the wake of an unexpected Ukrainian incursion in August 2024.
Last spring, combined Russian and North Korean forces expelled Ukrainian troops from the Kursk region; however, the area continues to endure frequent drone and missile attacks from across the border.
