Southeast Career Technical Academy, known as SECTA, launched Nevada’s sole high school cosmetology preparation program when it opened as the Southern Nevada Vocational Technical Center in 1966.
The magnet school continues to offer extended school days where students practice real-world services in a full-service salon laboratory open to the public at affordable prices.
Participants accumulate the required 1,600 training hours needed to pursue state cosmetology licenses, positioning them for immediate entry into the industry upon graduation.
This longstanding initiative stands out as the only one of its kind across the state, drawing ambitious teens eager to turn classroom lessons into professional expertise.
Expanding Skills with Lash Extensions
Teacher Tiffany Halstead recently incorporated eyelash application into the curriculum after her students expressed interest in the growing trend.
She first trained through sessions with a family member who works as a local cosmetologist, then guided her pupils from basic strip lashes on mannequin heads to advanced individual extensions.
