Cooking staff at the Farmer Boys location on Ramona Expressway first noticed the grease fire on the grill around midday. They grabbed a fire extinguisher and appeared to knock it back initially. However, flames had already crept into hidden areas.
The fire pushed beyond the kitchen and reached the attic, fueled by the building’s layout. Fire officials later explained that the staff did not spot the extension right away, which allowed the situation to worsen quickly. By the time help arrived, smoke poured through the roof.[1]
Fire Crews Tackle Inferno with Precision
Cal Fire Riverside County units rolled out at approximately 1:50 p.m. to the restaurant at 145 Ramona Expressway, Suite A. Crews found heavy fire venting from the roof upon arrival. They immediately evacuated all customers and employees without incident.
To battle the hidden flames, firefighters sliced ventilation holes in the roof for better access. Multiple engine companies worked the scene, containing the bulk of the fire within about an hour. Additional time went toward overhaul and cleanup to ensure no rekindle.[2][3]
