Security teams at the iconic Flamingo resort scrambled in the early hours of March 3 when a guest allegedly breached the wildlife habitat and vanished with one of the flock.

Surveillance cameras captured Mitchell Fairbarn, a 33-year-old visitor from Ontario, Canada, jumping a fence into the Flamingo’s protected bird enclosure around 5 a.m.[1][2]

He chased several flamingos, pinning one down and clipping its wing in the process. The bird later required stitches for the injury. Fairbarn then grabbed a 27-year-old flamingo named Peachy by the neck and legs.[3]

Officers later reviewed footage showing him wrapping the distressed bird in his shirt and jacket before boarding an elevator bound for the 14th floor.[4]

Security’s Frantic 911 Calls

Just before 6 a.m., a Flamingo employee reached out to Metro dispatchers with urgency. “There was a person who jumped the habitat, and he damaged the flamingos and took one away,” the guard reported.[2]

Staff rushed to the enclosure and discovered Peachy missing alongside two seriously hurt birds. “We were missing one, and two were seriously injured, in fact, one may not make it,” the officer added during the call.[4]

About two hours later, the security manager followed up, pressing for police arrival. “He stole one of the flamingo birds. It’s kind of serious stuff,” he emphasized.[2] Resort guards detained Fairbarn in the hallway after spotting him with the…
