Las Vegas – The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels men’s basketball team accepted an at-large bid to the National Invitation Tournament on Sunday, keeping their season alive after a solid late surge.[1][2] They now prepare for a challenging first-round road game against the UC Irvine Anteaters on Tuesday at 8 p.m. Pacific time at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, California.[2] The matchup, broadcast nationally on ESPNU, offers the Rebels a chance to build momentum under first-year head coach Josh Pastner.[3]

A Gritty Finish Propels UNLV into Postseason

The Runnin’ Rebels wrapped up the regular season with a 17-16 overall record and went 12-10 in Mountain West Conference play.[1] They showed resilience by winning seven of their final 11 games, including a first-round victory over Wyoming in the MWC Tournament before falling 80-60 to top-seeded Utah State in the quarterfinals at the Thomas & Mack Center.[2]

This marks UNLV’s second NIT appearance in three seasons, following a quarterfinal run in 2024 that ended their long postseason drought since the 2013 NCAA Tournament.[1] The program holds a 10-12 all-time record in 12 NIT trips, with their deepest advancement coming in 1980 when they reached the semifinals.
