When you’ve ever expressed even a passing want to consult with Walt Disney Global, you might have had pals who raised their eyebrows, groaned and even sneered.
The guts in their complaint isn’t simply that they believe Disney is for youngsters, or that it’s so pricey. It’s what I name the “authenticity objection” – the realization that there’s one thing basically inferior about visits to theme parks just like the Magic Kingdom as a result of they happen in a completely manufactured setting. The factitious mountains and rivers, the rides that supply not anything greater than senseless distraction, the folks dressed up as fictional characters …
It’s all so faux.
Whilst other people every now and then specific this view in jest, others consider the faux setting borders on a cultural abomination. One on-line discussion board explicitly cites the manufactured nature of Disney Global as a reason why to not move, noting that the “smiling staff, the piped-in music, the perfect landscaping” can really feel “creepy and overly controlled.”
Journalist EJ Dickson, herself a Disney fan, admits that guests to Disney parks “willingly spend thousands of dollars on an authentic emotional experience that they know, at least on some level, isn’t really authentic at all.” And a consultant Commute Consultant assessment dismisses Disney Global as “a hot, commercialized, fake experience.”
