Beverly Hills – A brief police chase through the city Sunday afternoon escalated into an hours-long SWAT standoff after a suspect crashed a gray Ford pickup truck into another vehicle.[1][2] The incident unfolded near busy intersections, drawing a heavy law enforcement presence as the driver refused to exit the damaged truck.[3]

Chase Begins Over Felony Vehicle Alert

Beverly Hills Police Department officers spotted the gray Ford pickup around 1:30 p.m. near San Vicente Boulevard and Beverly Boulevard. Automated license plate readers had flagged it as a felony vehicle earlier that day.[1] When officers moved in for a traffic stop, the driver sped away instead.

The pursuit lasted only a few minutes. It concluded abruptly when the truck slammed into an uninvolved car at the intersection of Burton Way and South Robertson Boulevard.[1][3] The suspect remained inside the vehicle, barricading himself and setting the stage for a prolonged confrontation.

Connection to Earlier Deputy Injury

Authorities linked the driver to an incident hours earlier in the Lennox area. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies had tried to detain the same suspect before 3 a.m. near 106th Street and Hawthorne Boulevard.[1]

A struggle broke out during that encounter. The suspect fled in his vehicle, leaving one deputy injured, according to LASD officials.[1]
