Garland, Texas — An ordinary Sunday afternoon turned chaotic when a suspect crashed his vehicle and launched a series of desperate theft attempts. A father parked nearby found himself in a life-or-death struggle as the man tried to seize his white Impala, where his family of eight remained inside.[1][2] The father fired his weapon during the altercation, killing the unarmed intruder and ensuring his loved ones escaped without injury. Garland police ruled the incident self-defense, sparing the man any charges.
Suspect’s Rampage Begins with Crash
Around 3:30 p.m. on May 3, a green car slammed into two others along Highway 66 near Dairy Road, just outside Dallas.[2][3] The driver abandoned the wrecked vehicle at a nearby gas station and immediately targeted other cars, forcing his way toward their doors in erratic fashion. Witnesses later described him as clearly not in his right state of mind.
Officers received calls about the crash but learned en route that the suspect had bolted across the street to a convenience store parking lot. There, surveillance cameras captured him zeroing in on the father’s Impala. The sequence marked the third brazen attempt that afternoon, escalating an already volatile situation.[1]
