Mt. Charleston, Nevada – NV Energy has placed parts of this mountain community on notice for possible planned power outages that could begin Sunday and continue into Monday. The utility activated its Public Safety Outage Management process after forecasts showed dangerous fire weather conditions across the area. Officials described the step as a proactive measure to limit the chance of equipment-related ignitions during periods of elevated wildfire risk.
Why the Utility Is Taking This Step
High winds combined with low humidity and dry vegetation create conditions where even a single spark can spread rapidly. NV Energy monitors these factors closely and uses the Public Safety Outage Management framework to decide when de-energizing lines may be necessary. The current warning covers selected portions of Mt. Charleston where the combination of terrain and weather raises the greatest concern.
