Authorities reported early Wednesday that three individuals lost their lives due to a Ukrainian rocket strike in the southwestern Belgorod region, marking the second fatal incident in the border area this week.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the Governor of Belgorod region, stated that a “public building” in Maslova, situated less than 20 kilometers (approximately 17.4 miles) from the Ukrainian border, was struck and sustained significant damage. He confirmed that two men and one woman were among the casualties.
Governor Gladkov visited Maslova after the attack and shared images and videos depicting a structure with its roof and walls severely compromised. The Moscow Times managed to identify the facility as the Prestan Sport Fitness Center, located within a residential neighborhood.
Gladkov mentioned that nine additional individuals suffered injuries in the incident, and nearby apartments and vehicles also experienced damage.
This incident marks the second lethal Ukrainian rocket assault on the Belgorod region this week. On Monday, two individuals were killed in a related strike on the regional capital, which targeted energy infrastructure and caused power outages.
Additionally, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday that it intercepted nearly 30 Ukrainian drones in the Belgorod region overnight. Overall, it reported having destroyed more than 50 drones nationwide.
