Monterey County – Authorities arrested a 25-year-old Fresno resident on suspicion of driving under the influence following a highway collision that sent two young children to the hospital with major injuries.[1][2]

The Collision on Highway 156

California Highway Patrol officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on eastbound Highway 156 east of Cathedral Oaks Road in the Prunedale area.[1] The incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. on Sunday. Daniel Anthony Santos, the 25-year-old driver from Fresno, operated a gray Kia SUV at the time.

Santos executed an unsafe turning movement. The vehicle then veered across the westbound lane and departed the roadway. It ultimately collided with a tree, leaving the SUV severely damaged. First responders arrived quickly to secure the scene and assist those involved.[2]

Serious Injuries Prompt Airlift

Two children in the vehicle sustained major injuries in the crash. A 6-year-old boy and a 7-month-old baby girl required immediate advanced care. Medical teams airlifted both to a hospital in the Bay Area for treatment.

The 21-year-old woman passenger suffered minor injuries. She received evaluation at a local facility. Santos himself sustained minor injuries and underwent hospital treatment before further processing. All occupants hailed from Fresno, underscoring the trip’s local origins.[1]
