The race for Nevada’s open 2nd Congressional District seat has drawn 25 Republican candidates, turning what was once a safe GOP hold into a test of party identity. James Settelmeyer, a longtime rancher and former state legislator from Douglas County, enters as the candidate with the deepest local roots and endorsements from sitting Republican leaders. Settelmeyer’s family has worked the same Douglas County land since the 1880s, when his great-grandfather arrived from Germany.
